There are presently no open calls for submissions.
45th Parallel is currently closed for submissions. Thanks to everyone who shared their work! Watch for a response from our editors in the coming months and for our new issue in May or June.
Please read through the guidelines below for general and genre-specific submission information.
Submissions are automatically considered for our Broadside Project, where select pieces from our upcoming volume are lovingly hand printed in the OSU Print Studio and shared with the author and members of our community.
45th Parallel is an online Oregon-based literary magazine produced by graduate students at Oregon State University. We accept original, previously unpublished submissions in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, visual art, and comics. We do our best to respond to all work within three to six months. If you still haven’t heard from us after six months, feel free to contact us regarding the status of your submission.
We especially welcome work from writers who are Black, Indigenous, people of color, people with disabilities, gender-nonconforming, LGBTQIA+, women, and any other voices who are underrepresented in the literary community.
We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as your work becomes unavailable so we can remove it from consideration.
Please format and proofread your work carefully before submitting it to us. All prose should be double-spaced and include page numbers. Please also remove all identifying information from your submission and include a brief cover letter or artist’s statement in the “Cover Letter” section of Submittable or in the body of your email.
We look forward to reading your words!
*NB: If you're having trouble submitting on Submittable, you may email us your submissions (following the same guidelines, including a brief bio in the body of the email) at email@example.com.
