45th Parallel is open for submissions until January 1st!

Please read through the guidelines below for general and genre-specific submission information.

45th Parallel is an online Oregon-based literary magazine produced by graduate students at Oregon State University. We accept original, previously unpublished submissions in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, visual art, and comics. We do our best to respond to all work within three to six months. If you still haven’t heard from us after six months, feel free to contact us regarding the status of your submission.

We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as your work becomes unavailable so we can remove it from consideration.

Please format and proofread your work carefully before submitting it to us. All prose should be double-spaced and include page numbers. Please also remove all identifying information from your submission and include a brief cover letter and third-person author bio in the “Cover Letter” section of Submittable.

We look forward to reading your words!

45th Parallel is interested in the good and the weird. We are looking for artwork of all media and styles—if you were compelled to make it, we want to see it. We accept individual pieces that can stand on their own as well as series, including comics and graphic art.

Submit 1 to 5 pieces of your artwork as a single PDF or individual JPGs. For publication we will need high resolution images. On a cover page, include the number of pieces and their titles.

We’re looking for all forms of creative nonfiction, from researched essays to personal memoirs to hybrid explorations. Flash essays are welcome, as are full-length pieces of up to 2,000 words.
