Note: In an effort to promote a diversity of voices in publishing, 45th Parallel will be open to submissions exclusively from BIPOC writers from September 23 to 30, 2021. We will be open to general submissions from October 1 to December 31, 2021.

Please read through the guidelines below for general and genre-specific submission information.

45th Parallel is an online Oregon-based literary magazine produced by graduate students at Oregon State University. We accept original, previously unpublished submissions in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, visual art, and comics. We do our best to respond to all work within three to six months. If you still haven’t heard from us after six months, feel free to contact us regarding the status of your submission.

We especially welcome work from writers who are Black, Indigenous, people of color, people with disabilities, gender-nonconforming, LGBTQIA+, women, and any other voices who are underrepresented in the literary community.

We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as your work becomes unavailable so we can remove it from consideration.

Please format and proofread your work carefully before submitting it to us. All prose should be double-spaced and include page numbers. Please also remove all identifying information from your submission and include a brief cover letter or artist’s statement in the “Cover Letter” section of Submittable or in the body of your email.

We look forward to reading your words!

45th Parallel seeks poetry submissions with a range of forms and content. We love work that’s lyrical, rich with imagery, and engaged in examining experience. We are particularly interested in work that experiments with formal constraints and interdisciplinary content.

Please submit up to three poems, and no more than six pages total.

45th Parallel is interested in the good and the weird. We are looking for artwork of all media and styles—if you were compelled to make it, we want to see it. We accept individual pieces that can stand on their own as well as series, including comics and graphic art.

Submit 1 to 5 pieces of your artwork as a single PDF or individual JPGs. For publication we will need high resolution images. On a cover page, include the number of pieces and their titles.
